About This Activity

Altyn Emel is Kazakhstan's largest protected reserve, covering 4,600 sq km of desert, mountains, and steppe. Famous for Singing Dunes (Barchan Dune) - a 1.5km long, 120m high dune that produces deep humming sounds when dry sand shifts. Also features volcanic Aktau and Katutau mountains, rare Turanga trees, and endangered species like Kulans and Saiga antelope.
