Is this for you?
01 / OverviewMasfout Dam, also spelt Masfoot, sits at the western end of the Masfoot Walk in Masfout, Ajman's mountain exclave near Hatta, at the foot of Jebel Abyad. Like the other dams in the Hajar range, it only holds water after a wet winter: it filled after the rains of 2020 and was overflowing in spring 2024, but in dry years the basin can sit empty, so set your expectations before you drive out.
The dam is where the Masfoot Walk begins. This paved path runs east through the town to near the castle, with benches along the way, shaded shelters and street lamps that light it after dark. In rainy winters a water channel runs beside it. From the town, short marked hiking trails lead to other dams, including Kholaiban near the Oman border and Al Mustab, and there are picnic shelters with barbecues at the Al Jazer dam park.
Masfout is about 90 minutes by road from Ajman city. If you do not hold a GCC passport, take the Sharjah-Kalba Road: the Dubai-Hatta road crosses an Oman border post that only GCC nationals may use. Combine the dam with the Masfout Museum and the walk for a half day.
Who it suits
An easy, flat walk for families and older visitors along the paved path. Hiking to the other dams involves rough ground, and there is little shade in summer.
