Experience the land of fire and ice. From ancient history to modern architecture, explore the perfect blend of Eastern and Western cultures.
Where ancient empires rise from earth, hot air balloons drift above fairy-tale valleys, and two continents converge in a timeless dance of history, culture, and culinary magic.
Turkey's history is an epic tapestry woven from the threads of countless civilizations. From the earliest Paleolithic settlements to the Ottoman Empire's grandeur and the modern Turkish Republic, the land has witnessed the rise and fall of empires, the birth of monotheistic religions, and the evolution of human culture itself.
Two of humanity's Seven Wonders were located in Turkey: the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus (one of the largest buildings of the ancient world, rebuilt multiple times, each grander than the last) and the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus (whose architectural legacy inspired the word 'mausoleum'). Their ruins still inspire awe, connecting modern travelers to antiquity's grandeur.
Founded by Greeks, captured by Romans, ruled by Byzantines, conquered by Ottomans, Istanbul transformed from pagan to Christian to Islamic identity while remaining a cosmopolitan crossroads. The city's layers—from underground Roman cisterns to Byzantine churches to Ottoman mosques—tell the story of 2,700 years of continuous civilization and adaptation.
Ottoman sultans ate the world's most elaborate cuisine at Topkapi Palace. Palace cooks pioneered techniques now global: layering phyllo (baklava), roasting lamb in sealed tandoors (kebabs), preparing complex coffee ceremonies. This 'palace cuisine' influenced Persian, Middle Eastern, and Mediterranean cooking—its legacy alive in every Turkish restaurant today.
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's radical reforms modernized Turkey in just 15 years: abolished the Sultanate, replaced Arabic script with Latin alphabet, granted women voting rights (1934—before many 'Western' nations), industrialized the economy, and moved the capital from Istanbul to Ankara. His vision of a secular, modern nation continues to define Turkish identity today.

Göbekli Tepe in southeastern Turkey stands as the world's oldest known temple complex (9500 BCE), suggesting sophisticated spiritual beliefs predating agriculture. Settlements along the Fertile Crescent indicate human civilization's birthplace.
The Hittites established the first imperial state in Anatolia, with their capital at Hattusa. They were skilled ironworkers, created the first written peace treaty (Treaty of Kadesh, 1259 BCE), and their advanced military innovations shaped ancient warfare.
Lydia introduced coined money (~650 BCE). Greek city-states flourished on coastal Anatolia. Ephesus became one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World (Temple of Artemis). Alexander the Great conquered the region (333 BCE), spreading Hellenism.
Anatolia became the heartland of the Roman Empire. Constantinople (Istanbul), founded 330 CE by Emperor Constantine, became the capital of the Byzantine Empire. For 1,100+ years, it was Christendom's greatest city, center of Orthodox Christianity, and bridge between East and West.
Rising from a small Anatolian kingdom, the Ottomans built history's longest-lived empire, spanning three continents. At its peak (16th-17th centuries), it dominated the Mediterranean, Black Sea, and Middle East. The Topkapi Palace housed sultans who ruled 30 million people. Ottoman culture—architecture, cuisine, governance—remains globally influential.
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk founded the Turkish Republic (1923), transforming a declining empire into a modern nation-state. Secularization, industrialization, and democratization reshaped society. Today, Turkey balances Islamic heritage with Western modernity, Eurasian geopolitics with European aspirations.

I recently took a 5N/6D trip to Kerala with Bayyard Vacation, and it turned out to be a lovely experience. Even before the trip began, the Bayyard team, especially Sooraj, helped me with every little detail and was super quick with his responses. Our assigned driver, Jbin Alex, was incredibly humble, kind, and supportive throughout the journey. I’d strongly recommend him if you’re planning a Kerala trip, and I’d definitely suggest choosing Bayyard Vacation for your travels. There was a small miss where one of the complimentary items mentioned in the itinerary couldn’t be fulfilled, but aside from that, everything went smoothly. Overall, I’d rate Bayyard Vacation a solid 4.5/5.
