Chi Lin Nunnery stands as Hong Kong's most magnificent spiritual sanctuary, a sprawling 33,000 square-meter Buddhist complex showcasing authentic Tang Dynasty architectural brilliance. Built in 1934 and extensively restored in the 1990s to its classical form, this active nunnery harmoniously blends 16 ornate temple halls with tranquil lotus ponds, traditional Chinese gardens, and intricate wooden sculptures—all constructed without a single nail or modern metal fastener. Walking through the complex, you'll encounter towering bronze statues of Sakyamuni Buddha, the Goddess of Mercy Guanyin, and revered bodhisattvas, each crafted from clay, wood, and gold. The serene atmosphere, accentuated by the fragrance of incense and the gentle rustling of gardens, offers a contemplative escape from urban Hong Kong while providing profound insights into Buddhist culture and artistic heritage.
