Day01
Upon arrival: At Jaipur International Airport or Jaipur Railway Station, a Bayard Vacations representative will receive you and transfer you to the pre-booked hotel. Standard check-in is at 12:00 PM. After freshening up, proceed for afternoon sightseeing.
Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds) (Approx. 45 min, entry fee applicable): Jaipur's most recognisable icon, built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh. The five-storey terracotta and pink sandstone façade contains 953 latticed windows — each unique — originally designed so royal ladies could observe street festivals from behind the screen, maintaining purdah. The honeycombed jharokhas (projecting balconies) also create a natural cooling breeze through the Venturi effect. The view from the upper galleries over the old city bazaars is excellent.
Jantar Mantar (Approx. 1 hr, entry fee applicable): A UNESCO World Heritage Site built between 1724 and 1730 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II — the largest and best-preserved of five astronomical observatories he constructed across India. It contains 19 architectural astronomical instruments, including the world's largest stone sundial, the Samrat Yantra, which can measure time accurately to two seconds. The observatory functions as precisely today as it did 300 years ago.
City Palace (Approx. 1.5 hrs, entry fee applicable): The royal complex of the Jaipur Maharajas, blending Rajput, Mughal, and European architectural styles across several courtyards and buildings. Highlights include the Mubarak Mahal (Textile Museum), the Diwan-i-Khas with the world's two largest silver urns (each holding 900 litres of Ganga water — carried by Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh II to London in 1901 as they were the only vessels he considered ritually pure for the ocean journey), and the Chandra Mahal, which remains a royal residence.
Albert Hall Museum (Approx. 1 hr, entry fee applicable): Rajasthan's oldest and most magnificent museum, housed in an Indo-Saracenic building completed in 1887. The collection includes sculptures, miniature paintings, Rajasthani jewellery, weapons, natural history specimens, and one of India's few publicly displayed Egyptian mummies.
Birla Mandir (Laxmi Narayan Temple) (Approx. 30 min): A striking modern temple in pristine white Makrana marble, dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi, built by the Birla family in 1988. The temple glows magnificently at night. The three domes represent three religions of India, and the carved exterior panels include global spiritual figures alongside Hindu deities.
Ganesh Mandir (Moti Dungri) (Approx. 30 min): A highly venerated Ganesh temple on a rocky hill near Birla Mandir, especially crowded on Wednesdays and every morning. The small castle-like Moti Dungri palace beside it creates a distinctive backdrop.
Evening: Optional Cultural Experience:
Chokhi Dhani Ethnic Village Resort (Optional, additional cost): A cultural village on Jaipur's outskirts recreating a traditional Rajasthani settlement. Evenings include Rajasthani folk dances, puppet shows, camel rides, folk musicians, village games, and a traditional thali dinner on leaf plates while seated on the floor. An excellent immersive experience for first-time visitors to Rajasthan.
Evening: Return to hotel. Overnight stay in Jaipur.
📌 Client Note: Check-in is at 12:00 PM. Guests arriving on early morning flights may store luggage at the hotel and begin sightseeing before the room is ready. City Palace and Jantar Mantar are adjacent — visit them consecutively to save travel time. Chokhi Dhani dinner is best pre-booked, especially on weekends and festival days; inform your tour coordinator in advance. Hawa Mahal photography from the road is free; the museum inside requires a paid ticket. The City Palace museum closes at 5:00 PM — plan accordingly.
