Day01
Upon arrival: At Jodhpur Domestic Airport or Jodhpur Railway Station, a Bayard Vacations representative will receive you and transfer you to the pre-booked hotel. Standard check-in is at 12:00 PM. After freshening up, proceed for afternoon sightseeing. — where houses are painted in various shades of indigo blue — creates one of India's most distinctive urban vistas when seen from the fort above. The blue colour was traditionally used by Brahmin households to keep homes cool and deter insects, though today the entire city maintains it as identity.
Full Day Sightseeing:
Mehrangarh Fort (Approx. 2–2.5 hrs, entry fee applicable): One of India's largest and best-maintained forts, rising 125 metres on a perpendicular cliff above the blue city. Built by Rao Jodha in 1459, the fort expanded over centuries into a complex of remarkable palaces and galleries. The Sheesh Mahal (mirrored hall), Moti Mahal (Pearl Palace), and Phool Mahal (Flower Palace) each contain astonishing interiors. The museum houses rare Rajput armoury, royal palanquins, elephant howdahs, and painted miniatures. The view of the blue city from the ramparts is one of Rajasthan's most iconic photographs.
Jaswant Thada (Approx. 30 min, entry fee applicable): A delicate white marble cenotaph built in 1899 by Maharaja Sardar Singh in memory of his father Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. Set on a small hill just below Mehrangarh, the translucent marble panels glow golden in afternoon light. The shaded gardens, peaceful lake, and royal portrait gallery inside make it a serene contrast to the fort's grandeur.
Umaid Bhawan Palace & Museum (Approx. 1 hr, museum entry fee applicable): One of the world's largest private residences, still partially occupied by the Jodhpur royal family. Built between 1928 and 1943 in an Indo-Deco style, the palace employed 3,000 workers for 15 years as a famine relief programme during a severe drought. The museum wing displays vintage automobiles, royal photographs, hunting trophies, and period art. The palace's majestic exterior and sculpted lawns are among Rajasthan's finest architectural sights.
Mandore Gardens (Approx. 45 min): The ancient capital of Marwar before Jodhpur, located 9 km away. The garden complex contains imposing chhatris (royal cenotaphs) of Marwar's rulers — towering 17th and 18th-century memorial structures with finely carved sandstone panels. A Hall of Heroes displays giant carved figures of folk deities from Rajasthani mythology. Peacocks roam the gardens freely.
Bishnoi Village Safari: (Approx. 3 hrs, separate activity cost — best in morning or late afternoon) — An immersive rural experience in the Bishnoi community's villages south of Jodhpur. The Bishnoi are one of the world's earliest conservationist communities — their 363 principles prohibit harming trees or animals, and wildlife here is tame and unafraid of humans. Guests observe traditional block printing, carpet weaving, clay pottery, and encounter blackbuck antelope, chinkara gazelles, and peacocks living freely alongside the settlements.
Evening: Return to hotel. Overnight stay in Jodhpur.
📌 Client Note: Mehrangarh Fort has significant walking distances and uneven stone surfaces within — wear closed, comfortable footwear. Audio guides are available in multiple languages at the entrance and are worth renting for deeper engagement. The Umaid Bhawan Palace is a functioning Taj heritage hotel — only the museum section is open to non-guests. The Bishnoi Village Safari runs best in the early morning (8:30–11:30 AM) for wildlife sightings; afternoon (3:30–6:30 PM) is also good. The safari includes village visits, open nature drives, and tea at a village home.
