Day01
Arrival in Hubballi : Upon arrival at Hubballi Airport or Railway Station, you will be warmly welcomed by our Bayard Vacations representative and begin your scenic journey towards Hampi, with an approximate travel time of three hours.
Enroute Sightseeing:
Tungabhadra Dam (Pampa Sagar) (Approx. 45 min) : A major multipurpose gravity dam built across the Tungabhadra River at Hosapete, completed in 1953. The dam has historical and ecological significance — the same river once surrounded the Vijayanagara empire and is referenced in ancient texts as the Pampa. Garden areas around the dam offer pleasant views of the reservoir. The dam illumination (evenings) is a local attraction.
Arrival in Hampi: Continue towards the historic city of Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage destination renowned for its extraordinary ruins, ancient temples, and magnificent remnants of the Vijayanagara Empire.
Vijaya Vittala Temple & Stone Chariot (Approx. 1.5–2 hrs, entry fee applicable) : Arguably the most spectacular monument in Hampi, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is renowned for its 56 musical pillars (each emitting a different sound when struck), the iconic Stone Chariot — a perfectly proportioned granite chariot with rotating stone wheels symbolising the chariot of the Sun God — and elaborately carved halls. The entire complex is a masterpiece of Vijayanagara sculpture at its peak. Located about 2 km from Hampi Bazaar, accessible by auto or a pleasant walk.
Purandaradasa Mantapa (Approx. 20 min) : A peaceful open-air pavilion and mandapa near the Vittala Temple, dedicated to Purandara Dasa — the 15th-century Carnatic music composer revered as the 'Pitamaha (Grandfather) of Carnatic Music.' The riverside setting and historical resonance make it a quiet and moving stop.
Evening: Return to the hotel and relax after a memorable introduction to the ancient heritage and architectural splendour of Hampi.
Accommodation : Overnight stay in Hampi.
📌 Client Note: Hampi is a protected archaeological zone — most of the ruins are spread across several square kilometres. Comfortable walking shoes are essential as terrain is uneven and rocky throughout. Entry to the Vittala Temple complex requires an Archaeological Survey of India ticket, purchasable at the site entrance. Photography is permitted throughout the open-air ruins; a video camera fee may apply for dedicated cameras. Hampi Bazaar has basic restaurants and cafes for refreshments during your exploration.
